Fact the First: This guy is accusing Laurie Halse Anderson’s Speak of being no better than soft pornography.
Fact the Second: Speak is about a rape victim.
That’s right, there’s at least one person in this world who believes rape is synonymous with porn. I can’t even begin to express how much this outrages me. Speak is an amazing book, an honest book, and in no way does the author sensationalize rape. We need books like this in the world, because as much as I hate to admit it, rape is a real issue that many people, including the teens Speak is shelved for, have faced or will be facing. The fact that somebody out there thinks it’s something pornographic and in need of banning sickens me to no end.
